Opening the Books
Installation view at V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, during the exhibition Data in the 21st Century
Created during a residency at V2.
This installation-in-progress is a follow-up on the publication If you Work it, you Own it [Link] , which reinstates the concept of workers’ control. Opening the Books stretches the idea of common ownership even further by using Amazon.com as a public library. Every week a new title is requested from one of the surrounding distribution centers. The books are curated for the installation to suggest a timeline of workers-controlled industry, working towards a vision of the future in which workers will claim ownership over the fruits of their efforts. After a week the book is returned to the distribution center.
