Meal Machine

A collaboration with Arend Groosman.

Installation view during the exhibition Users Manual: A Grand Domestic Revolution, curated by Casco – Office for Art, Design and Theory.

This installation is a greenhouse robot, built as an extension to the existing architecture of a third-floor apartment in Utrecht. Through the bedroom window the Meal Machine extends onto the balcony. This new space, on the border of inside and outside, is designed to automate plant care and optimize growth. By introducing the automation of food production into the domestic sphere, the Meal Machine proposes a new way of city gardening, taking into account the busy schedule of the citizen.
