Map of Ever-Changing Borders

Installation view at BAK (Basis voor Actuele Kunst) during the group exhibition ‘Present!’

This project is inspired by the world map sold at IKEA, on which Europe – and especially Scandinavia – is disproportionally large. Greenland, for example, is as big as Africa on the map, whereas in reality Africa is fourteen times larger. Because maps have always also been an expression of hegemony, the Map of Ever-changing Borders speculates on how a world-leading multinational such as IKEA would perceive the world.
