Clank – an Oral History of Sound
2015
PERFORMANCE

Photo’s were taken in the former Werkspoor factory in Utrecht.

This project was supported by Expodium.

The last remaining workshop of the Werkspoor factory is impressive for its size and echo. The deafening noises of work have long faded and only the overhead crab cranes are silent remainders of the bridges and trains that were produced here. For the performance Clank – an Oral History of Sound former employees described the noises of labor (welding, riveting, pounding, etc.) using onomatopoeias, which were then brought together into a composition. Clank can be performed by one or more performers and a loop station.

Clank has also been published as a concrete poem and a sound piece [Link] .
