Informal strategies was founded in 2011 by artists Doris Denekamp and Geert van Mil as a flexible platform for working together and finding new ways of working together. Its founding was inspired by our ongoing daily practice of cohabitation and collaboration within different squats and communes. Our work pivots on the question “How to be together otherwise?” In the effort to subvert the all-encompassing logic of capital, we revisit revolutionary moments in history in order to make alternative futures imaginable. Both the urgency and the complexity of this task render our practice restless and fluid. We write, construct, perform and record together with a changing collective of makers and thinkers.
After a series of work periods in Germany, Sweden, Greece, Romania and Ireland, we are currently based in Rotterdam.
